The Meaning of Saturday Kiddush: A Chiastic Inspection
The Kiddush we recite on Shabbat, on Saturday morning, is seemingly boring and repetitive, but is this a clue to a hidden meaning? Reading the text from Exodus 31 explains we should observe the Sabbath day, its holiness, and keep this eternal covenant created between God and his people. Looking closer at verses 13 to 17, we see this commentary repeated over and over. Why did God repeat this message? When we read these words on Shabbat today, how does this influence what Kiddush should mean to us?
In this video, Rabbi Fohrman takes a deeper inspection of the seemingly repetitious nature of the Kiddush text. By creating a chiastic structure of Exodus 31, he starts to connects common themes. Join his journey to uncover the possibilities of a hidden meaning in Exodus 31. \n\n Be surprised by the Shabbat morning Kiddush you thought you knew.
