The Cherubs' Secret: How To Read The Biblical Creation Story

This lecture, given on October 24, 2015, is the second in a series at the Young Israel of Woodmere about how to read the beginning of the story of creation and the first several chapters of Genesis.

Last week, Rabbi Fohrman talks about the intersection of the two creation stories in the beginning of Genesis, and argues that the two stories are less about a literal read of Torah, and more about God giving a guidebook for us all through the words of the Bible. This week, Rabbi Fohrman elaborates on the second creation story, and then brings us back to the first creation, to understand a deeper view of Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik's brilliant theory of the dialectic of man. Finally, Rabbi Fohrman focuses on the question - is there any way we can read the Torah to actually understand the literal history of what happened in creation?
